Well, the review thing didn't take too long to be abandoned.

What I wanted to put in here was the quote from today's inspiration to make sure Lori saw it.  "Today in 1955 Allen Ginsberg read his generation-defining poem "Howl" in public for the first time. It’s hard to imagine a poem having the same widespread impact today. Is poetry irrelevant to the best minds of our generation?"

The only time I see poetry is when Lori has it in her journal.  So apparently it is relevant to ONE of the best minds of our generation.  (Meaning Lori, not me.)

Well, I'm afraid Thirsty just got worse.  It was incredibly juvenile and annoying.  And the ending was atrocious.  It's not that I always want happy endings, but this was just stupid.  And I think the author was trying to do some kind of allegorical something-or-other about teen angst (the main character is turning into a vampire, all teenagers are turning into adults) and it just didn't work for me.  I tried looking to look at it from my teenage self, but I think she would have disliked it, too.

    Books

Inspired by [info]extrajoker and the adult summer reading program at my library and completely UNinspired by the book I'm currently reading, I thought I would do some book reviews on my site.

The World to Come: a novel / Dara Horn.

This is a very interesting book.  We actually discussed it in our book group, and we all agreed that while we enjoyed the book, we were not likely to read something else by this author.  I find that to be an interesting benchmark.  The book itself is rather depressing, and while I think the author meant for the ending to be uplifting, I didn’t really find it to be so.

    Tempting Danger / Eileen Wilks.

    Fun werewolf book.

When Demons Walk / Patricia Briggs.

Yay Patricia Briggs!  This is more fantasy than what I normally read (urban fantasy) but I still really enjoyed her writing style.

    Thirsty / M.T. Anderson.

This is what I’m currently reading.  It has traces that I think are supposed to be funny, but it is very juvenile.  As I’m sure Lori can attest, young adults novels do not need to be juvenile.  We’ll see how it goes.

(Oops, just tried to leave work 30 minutes early.  Flexible schedules are so annoying.  Gad, I just did it again at 15 minutes.  Apparently I want to go home.)

Hmm... my website has been wrong this whole time. Clearly no one has been clicking on my link. (:
